Ayurvedic science considers Tridosha or the three vital functional modes of intelligence as the governing principles of the entire physical universe. They are known as vata, pitta and kapha.
These three modes of intelligence are responsible for maintaining the functional integrity of the universe and the binding agents for all expressions of life. They provide the rhythm, movement, transformation, and stability that is essential for the continuity of life.
Dosha’s are also considered in Ayurveda as the pathogenic or disease-causing factors of the body. When they are balanced they provide the proper functions required for optimal health. When they become imbalanced they initiate the disease process. The quality of disturbance is determined by the nature of which dosha’s are involved.
